This study aims to investigate the impact of employee productivity while working from home for a long period due to the COVID-19 pandemic quantitatively from the aspects of work-life balance, and employee stress levels. Several previous studies have explained that working from home (WFH) is known to contribute positively to work productivity. However, in contrast, several other studies have shown that working from home harms employee productivity. This research was conducted in Jakarta, Indonesia. The study sample comprised 135 employees who worked from home and the analysis was carried out using LISREL 8.5. The results of this study indicate that work-life balance and work-related stress affect work productivity. Meanwhile, working from home does not affect work productivity. The findings of this study show surprising results and can influence changes in organizational policies and strategies for collaborating between working from home and working from an office for employees. Contribution/ Originality
This study contributes to the existing literature related to work from home policies during the COVID-19 pandemic. This research has never been carried out by previous research regarding the impact of work from home on work-life balance, stress, and work productivity during the COVID-19 pandemic. Earnings Quality and Audit Quality: Analysis of Investor Reaction
This study aims to analyze investor reaction to management behavior in preparing financial reports, especially earnings quality and audit quality. We also analyze the effect of financial performance as moderation. Generally, investors react positively to a company's financial performance, but the amount of fraud surrounding financial information, including auditor cooperation, raises big questions for investors about a company's financial information. We analyzed companies within the manufacturing sector that were listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange from 2015 to 2019, and it was found that investors reacted positively to earnings quality and audit quality moderated by financial performance. These results provide evidence that management should focus on earnings quality in financial reports and on the audit process to ensure quality and exceptional financial performance to obtain positive reactions from investors, which has a positive impact on increasing the value of companies’ shares. This study used the stock prices on the publication date of the financial statements, which reflect the direct reactions of investors to the information contained in the financial statements, such as earnings quality, audit quality, and financial performance. The different investor reactions were apparent on the day of the deadline for submitting financial statements according to existing regulations. These results reflect that the use of stock prices on the publication dates more accurately describes the reaction of investors than on the deadline for submitting financial statements. Contribution/ Originality
This study contributes to existing literature by investigating investor reaction to management behavior in preparing financial reports, especially earnings quality and audit quality. Social Sciences » Humanities and Social Sciences Letters » Month: 09-2021 Issue: 3

Research Article
Author(s):
Journal: International Journal of Climate Research
Bangladesh is one of the most vulnerable countries for climate change in agricultural water management. A research had been done to assess climate change effects on irrigation water use of wheat and maize in the northern part of Bangladesh. The twenty nine years of data (1990-2018) were analyzed with Mann-Kendall test as well as Sen’s slope for climate change impact and the responsible weather parameters due to climate change were identified with correlation coefficients. The crop water requirement of wheat in Bogura and Rangpur was declining at the rate of 3.3mm and 2.3mm per decade respectively. Net irrigation water requirement of wheat at both Bogura and Rangpur was inclining at the rate of 1mm and 10mm per decade respectively because the effective rainfall of these regions was decreasing at 5mm and 11mm per decade respectively. The crop water requirement of maize for similar districts was increasing at the rate of 3.2mm and 2.5mm per decade respectively although net irrigation water requirement had statistically non-significance for climate change effect. The weather parameter, which was mainly responsible for climatic change in irrigation water requirement, was increasing temperature. Therefore, wheat cultivation might be coped with climate change in the northern part of Bangladesh rather than maize on the basis of irrigation and water management. Contribution/ Originality
The paper's primary contribution is finding that the northern region of Bangladesh might be meet up extra irrigation water demand for wheat and maize cultivation due to climate change. Energy & Environmental Sciences » International Journal of Climate Research » Month: 06-2021 Issue: 1
Developing a Software Application for the Study and Learning of Linear a Script
The link between the scripts of many ancient languages and technology is minimum and occasionally superficial. As a result, their study and analysis remain a challenge for the researchers. Such an example of ancient script is Linear A, which is still considered the very first European script. Nowadays, there has been three main languages or language families of origin suggested, spoken in the Bronze Age, in order to attempt the decipherment of Linear A texts: (a) a language of the Aegean Sea, (b) certain languages of the Western Anatolia family and c) an Akkadian dialect. Therefore, there is a strong possibility that Linear A may render occasionally more than one language. The present survey initiates the adaptation of an existing computational framework for the interpretation and learning of syllabic scripts, already tested in Linear B script, to facilitate the research regarding the underlying language(s) of Linear A. Linear B have many signs in common with Linear A and of a known phonetic value per sign. Therefore, it is most appropriate for facilitating the study and potential decipherment of Linear A. This paper presents an outline of the designed software application, along with the sources that are studied and used for the adaptation of the existing computational framework for Linear B. Contribution/ Originality
This study is one of very few studies which have investigated the possibility of deciphering and simultaneously learning an ancient script of the Bronze Age, namely Linear A, by developing an interactive software application for this purpose that includes a multilingual database. Twin Deficit Hypothesis and Macroeconomic Fundamentals: New Evidence from Nigeria
Research Article
Author(s):
Journal: Quarterly Journal of Econometrics Research
This study tests for the validity of the twin-deficit hypothesis in Nigeria for the period 1981 – 2018 and further seeks to ascertain the role of macroeconomic fundamentals in driving this hypothesis using the non-linear autoregressive distributed lag (NARDL) model and structural vector autoregressive (SVAR) model. With evidence from granger causality test, the results obtained for the NARDL model support the validation of the twin-deficit hypothesis for the Nigerian economy. As long-run equilibrium exists, it was further established that the twin deficits were majorly driven by the degrees of financial and trade openness in Nigeria as no substantial shock effects of the twin deficits were traceable to any of the macroeconomic fundamentals. It is therefore recommended that policy makers in Nigeria should properly sequence the degree of economic openness to ensure the overall health of the economy. Contribution/ Originality
The study employs the novel technique of non-linear autoregressive distributed lag (NARDL) to investigate the asymmetric relationship between fiscal and current account deficits. More so, the study distinguishes between budget deficit and fiscal deficit in estimations through the inclusion of borrowing, as a significant component of fiscal deficit in Nigeria. Research Article
Author(s):
Journal: World Journal of Vocational Education and Training
A literature on maritime education is at the corner side, comparing with large amount of works on business and management topics. However, the importance of forming and updating a maritime education system should not be neglected, leaving a research gap for academic discussion. This paper is a continuation of an introductory course design study in a maritime university (Wang, Zhang, Ge, & Chao, 2021). In the last paper, we deal with the content selection problem for general shipping education. The content of shipping education relies heavily on the practice. Evolved with the internal and external environment change of shipping industry, the structure of the course designed before cannot fully comply with the industrial requirements. This paper aims to rearrange the course structure by increasing the student and practitioner engagement, where the student preference and industrial requirements are both considered. The Entropy-TOPSIS model is applied to evaluate the contents of each module. It is shown that students and practitioners are very sensitive to the different modules; the common and divergent perspectives were identified. Finally, the proportion of each content was adjusted accordingly based on the results of the measurement. The main contribution is to provide a possible solution for the course reform of general shipping education. Contribution/ Originality
This study is one of very few studies which have investigated the curriculum design of general shipping education. The primary contribution is providing a method for structural rearrangement with the engagement of students and practitioners, which enhance its reliability and applicability. Journal: International Journal of Sustainable Agricultural Research
A study was conducted to determine the effects of slope position and fertilizer type on soil properties and growth of maize (Zea mays) on Coastal Plain Sands of Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria. Results obtained showed that soils of lower slope (LS) had the highest contents of clay and silt compared with those of upper slope (US) position. Bulk density of the upper slope soil and that of the middle slope (MS) soils were significantly higher (P?0.05) than that of LS soil and subsequently, total porosity and saturated hydraulic conductivity (Ksat) increased downslope. Bulk density of soils that received poultry manure (PM) and NPK+PM were significantly reduced compared to those of NPK and control while total porosity and Ksat of soils that received PM and NPK+PM were significantly higher (P?0.05) than those of NPK and control. Soils of LS had highest pH, organic carbon, total nitrogen, available phosphorus, ECEC compared to those of MS and US. The application of poultry manure yielded increase in soil pH, soil organic carbon, total nitrogen, available phosphorus and ECEC when compared to soils of NPK and control. Growth of maize obtained with LS were consistently higher than those of the MS and US soils. Soils of LS that received NPK and NPK+PM had consistently similar maize growth, higher than other combinations of slope position and fertilizer type. The complementary application of poultry manure and NPK 15:15:15 can be the best option for increasing the fertility of soils with varying slope positions on Coastal Plain Sands. Women in Parliament and Public Health Expenditure: Evidence from Sub-Saharan African Countries
The linkages between women in politics and economic development have received significant attention from policymakers and researchers. There is a consensus in political economy literature that women are more sociable than men and that the higher number of females in parliament is associated with lower levels of corruption, better quality of environment and a higher level of economic growth. This paper investigates the effect of female representation on public health expenditure on a panel of 40 sub-Saharan African countries from 1995 to 2014. The empirical evidence is based on the ordinary least squares (OLS) method and the instrumental variables (IV-2SLS). The results show that a higher number of women in parliament increases the share of public spending devoted to health. Based on these results, several policy implications can be drawn. Contribution/ Originality
This study contributes to the existing studies by providing one of the first empirical study on the effect of political representation of women on public health expenditure in Sub Saharan Africa. Economics » Journal of Social Economics Research » Month: 12-2021 Issue: 2
Evaluating the Effects of Temporal Distance on Tourists Decision-Making Processes
Kenya’s tourism continues to rely heavily on wildlife. Of the approximately 922,000 annual international arrivals during the peak season between June and October, nearly 738,000 head for the Maasai Mara National Game Reserve to witness the seventh wonder of the world, the annual wildebeest migration. Several studies have been conducted based on construal level theory to establish the effect of temporal distance using various factors that determine travel decisions. However, to date, no study has been carried out to establish the effect of temporal distance on destination choice decision-making. As tourism consumption involves making a purchase decision now for a future point in time, this study evaluated the effects of temporal distance on the destination choice decision-making based on the construal level theory framework. The study adopted the survey approach based on a confirmatory research design. Using a sample of 144 drawn from a population of 230 tourists, data was collected and analyzed using correlation, ANOVA, and regression methods. The findings revealed that temporal distance has a positive and significant effect on decision-making regarding destination choice based on levels of construal measured through R=0.324; R2=0.105; ? = 0.295; t= 3.024 > +2; F=9.145; and p=0.003<0.05. The study revealed that temporal distance has a significant effect on the decision process of choosing a destination. In conclusion, therefore, marketing communications targeted at tourists should be intensified well in advance of the season envisioned for traveling to increase the desirability of the destination and thus, influence more tourists to choose the destination. The study also contributes valuably to the literature on tourists’ destination choosing decisions based on temporal distance in the construal level theory framework. Contribution/ Originality
The study contributes to the existing literature on tourists’ choice of a destination by taking into consideration the effect of temporal distance by adopting the Construal Level Theory (CLT), which has not yet been adopted in service industries such as tourism. And more so in a developing country like Kenya. Business & Management » Journal of Tourism Management Research » Month: 12-2021 Issue: 2
