Abstract
Commercial poultry farming is one of the key sector around the world especially in Pakistan due to its adaptability in different factors such as, low investment per unit, high growth rate, and agro-climatic conditions and also due to short generation interval. Unfortunately its progress is not enough to meet the demanding level due to the rate of high population. Therefore, the study was proposed to assess the farm and diseases management by commercial poultry farmers. Tehsil Faisalabad was selected purposively and the data were collected from randomly selected 120 commercial poultry farmers. The findings of the study revealed that majority of poultry farmers showed high level of knowledge on poultry housing management about spacing and watering equipment’s (70.0%). However their awareness of bedding or litter management (52.5%) and its changing was low. They also had low level of knowledge about quality of feed and water (52.5%), identification of affected birds (54.2%) but they were well known about the vaccination of birds (60.8%) with the help of their traditional experiences. They were also well known about common diseases like bird flu (68.3%) and gumboro (65.0%) however they had lower level of knowledge about Vent gleet (53.3%) and Coccidiosis (41.7%). Therefore, it is recommended that the private extension agents should be encouraged to focus their extension activities on the poultry farmers who are not getting proper and relevant information about the management of housing, disease and their control.

Abstract
This article examines the main obstacles faced by graduate females in Pakistan in pursuing their career due to which Pakistan is facing the critical situation like underutilization of female capital in Pakistan. This article explores the main hurdles that restrict the career development of graduated females in Pakistan and this is very important female capital goes wasted. The main purpose of this paper is to get to know why there is underutilization of female capital in Pakistan. The purpose of this paper is to explore the obstacles faced by Pakistani women in pursuing their careers because due to this reason there is underutilization of female capital in Pakistan. Respondents are graduate females who are not doing job after earning their graduate degree from well renowned universities. Sample size taken is of 300 respondents. The questionnaire were distributed and collected personally by the researcher. Some of the questionnaires were also emailed but it was assured that privacy will be maintained and names of the respondents will never be disclosed as this questionnaire is used for research purpose only. SPSS software is used for data analysis in this paper. Descriptive statistics is done in SPSS software. The findings show that male’s attitude words female at workplace or out of the workplace is the main obstacle in purposing job career in Pakistan. Whereas at workplace such as the administration of government agencies men treat female in different way on contrast to their male colleagues (McElwee and Al-Riyami, 2003) even sometimes females are teased, bad comments are passed over them. Due to this reason many of the families do not allow their daughters, wives and sisters to go outside for job. Other obstacles that are hindering the way of female job career development are culture, families and obviously workplace environment or job requirements. Others variables like lack of confidence and religion’s results showed that these variables are no hindering females anymore from doing job in Pakistan. Due to time constraints sample of only 300 respondents was taken but this issue needs to be took into consideration at broader and macro level as it is a micro level study. Recommendations It is suggested that Government of Pakistan, different NGOs, private and public organizations should create a favorable workplace environment for female employees. It is also suggested that different awareness campaigns should be established so that males’ attitude i.e. a very big obstacle for females in pursuing their career should be minimized or eliminated. Originality/value – This paper fulfils an identified need to study how female capital could be utilized at its full potential so that economy of Pakistan could be boasted up.

Abstract
This paper investigated climate variability, incidences and mitigation strategies among poultry farmers in Abia State, Nigeria. It specifically analysed the trend of climate variables over the period of 30 years, the perception of poultry farmers as regards the impact of climate variability on poultry production in the study area, and examined the different mitigation strategies adopted by these farmers. A multi-stage sampling technique was employed in choosing the required sample of 120 poultry farmers. Data were collected with validated structured questionnaire, and analyzed using descriptive statistics. The result showed a high inter-annual variability in the volume of rainfall from 1983 to 2012 with insignificant correlation (0.0781) between rainfall volume and time. Also, the result showed reduction in number of rainy days and sunshine duration between 1983 and 2012 with correlation coefficients of 0.146 and 0.132respectively. Temperature had significant positive relationship with time with correlation coefficient 0.638.High mortality rate, disease outbreak, smallness of egg size, poor quality of egg shell, heat stress and reduced feed intake actually impacted on poultry production in the study area. Climate variability was therefore found to have affected poultry production in the study area and this has serious environmental and food policies implication. The respondents identified the use of climate resilient breeds, closeness to hatchery, feed improvement, mixed farming, use of artificial cooling system and stocking less during harsh season as major mitigation strategies to climate variability. It is therefore recommended that the government should come up with appropriate policy that will assist the poultry farmer to be more resilient and able to cope with effect of climate variability. Policies should also be formulated to reduce the emission and accumulation of green-house gases in our environment.
Contribution/ Originality
This study is one of very few studies which have investigated climate variability, incidences and mitigation strategies among poultry farmers in Nigeria. The paper’s primary contribution is finding that mortality rate, disease, egg size, quality of egg shell, heat stress and feed intake impacted on poultry production in Nigeria.

Abstract
The commonly-used methodologies for raw material criticality assessments produce lists based on economic parameters. However, they do not provide qualitative guidance or recommendations as to how to reduce criticality. Paradoxically, publishing these lists impacts the system in a way that can make critical resources become even more critical, because markets may react by increasing prices for critical raw materials, and conflict for these resources may increase. We propose a complementary methodology, System Dynamics Modelling, which provides better guidance for policy makers because of its insights into the driving forces behind the criticality of raw materials. Also, this methodology allows us to take into account the biophysical limits and the social dynamics which underpin the system, and thus enables us to understand the context in which raw materials become critical. The clarification of the drivers of criticality of raw materials, provided by our research method, can enhance the recommendations and guidance for policy- and decision-makers to respond to warning signals in their management. The applicability of our approach is illustrated by two case studies, on phosphorus and indium. We conclude that the externalities (social and environmental) of raw material extraction, both for production and consumption, should be considered by policy makers in order to account for the true cost of critical raw materials.
Contribution/ Originality
This study contributes in the existing literature on critical raw materials. It uses logical methodology – system dynamics (CLD) – to understand social and economic drivers for phosphore and Indium. This methodology could be helpful for the economists who work on Economy of natural resources or Economy of Environment.

Abstract
In today’s academic environment, there is a tenacious effort to better educate our children. Unfortunately, federal and local budget constraints often limit our ability to create highly effective learning environments. As educators, it becomes our task to identify cost effective activities that will have a positive impact on our student’s education. A child’s academic self-concept is an important factor to academic success. Further, the rating of performance and desire for perfection are activities found in most every academic situation. The purpose of the present study was to explore the influence of perfectionism on academic self-concept. From a sample of one hundred and thirty five college students, the present study found evidence that a student’s academic self-concept is positively influenced by high personal standards, being organized, and low self-doubt. Educators could consider incorporating cost effective activities known to influence organization skills, personal standards, and self-doubt into education curriculum.
Contribution/ Originality
The present study contributes to existing literature related to college students’ academic self-concept. The study provides evidence of factors that may impact academic self-concept. Educators should consider these factors when developing curriculum designed to optimize student performance.

Abstract
African countries have joined other continents across the globe to embrace e-governance as a strategy to provide with ease public services to her citizens. The quest for e-governance stems from the fact that the traditional means of providing public services have not yielded the utmost results needed. Thus, the earnest desires to use electronic means to provide public services for Africans. Making available these services effectively using ICTs demands the existence of some critical success factors. One of these factors to successfully accomplish the goals of e-governance projects is funding. However, e-governance projects are highly capital intensive and hence, often knotty for governments to foot the expenditures through the normal annual operating expenditure (budget). Financing e-governance using the normal annual budgetary approach rarely guarantees solid funding. In view of the global financial and economic crisis facing many countries which have actually affected their budget execution, most government the world over have resorted to financing e-governance using several alternatives such as public private partnership (PPP). Although, no robust statistical analysis was done as the article relied qualitative approach with emphasis on archival analysis of relevant literature on the subject matter and inferences drawn from it. This paper infers from the documentary analysis that PPP has numerous potential gains to cushion the effects of the financial and economic crisis and that it is capable of making the implementation of e-governance projects a reality in African. However, the paper also reveals that despite its viability as an alternative measure to financing e-governance projects in Africa just as obtainable in other climes, it is imperative to address some latent limitations of PPP in order to seamlessly enhance its implementation in e-governance projects in Africa.
Contribution/ Originality
The paper is one of the few studies that investigated how public-private partnership was used to finance e-governance projects in some selected African countries.

Export to    BibTeX   |   EndNote   |   RIS

Abstract
The shortfall in grapevine planting materials urged the researchers to enhance rapid propagation techniques with successfully storing the propagation materials such as rootstock and scion canes. The present study was conducted to assess the effects of different storage conditions (cold storage room at 1 °C plus 80-90% relative humidity and sand medium in open area) on rooting and shooting performance of cuttings of seven grapevine cultivars. For assessments, a hydroponic culture system was established in which the cuttings were rooted. Investigations on the cuttings prepared from the canes sampled at 6th, 7th and 8th months of the storage times showed that cold storage room significantly maintained the quality of canes with better callusing, rooting and shooting features. Storage at cold room can be recommended for long term storage, while dipping the canes in damp sand medium can be considered for a short time around a few months keeping of grapevine canes. Grapevine cultivars exhibited slight variation in response to both storage duration and storage conditions.
Contribution/ Originality
This research is one of very few studies which have investigated the healthy and practical maintenance of propagation materials by comparing the scientific storage room and indigenous farming strategy conditions.

Journal: International Journal of Management and Sustainability

Export to    BibTeX   |   EndNote   |   RIS

Abstract
This study considered the effect of electricity consumption on Nigeria and South Africa's economic growth using Linear Autoregressive Distributed Lag (ARDL) Model. Aside from the size of the two economies and the strategic position they hold in Africa, Nigeria, unlike South Africa, in 2013 reformed its power sector to accommodate private participation for improved performance. In spite of this, the empirical results show that electricity consumption has no significant effect on Nigeria's economic growth both in the short and long-run. Contrarily, there was significant short-run electricity consumption effect on economic growth in South Africa. The effect persisted till the long-run though at an insignificant rate. The implication of the findings is that power sector reforms, especially in 2013, has not brought about the desired economic impact in Nigeria. As such, it is pertinent to revisit and correct the anomalies in the recent power sector privatization for economic growth. Evidently, electricity consumption engenders growth in South Africa, even with recent data, but more investment is required in the power sector to sustain long-run effect on the economy.
Contribution/ Originality
This study contributes to the existing literature by considering the short run and long-run effects, as against the causal link, of electricity-economic growth nexus. Also, extending data to recent period is apt, as this has an implication for capturing possible dynamics from the changing structure of the economies.

Abstract
This paper investigates the environmental destructions caused by cattle-grazing in Southwest, Nigeria, challenges associated with herding activities and measures to protect the environment from further destruction. For a qualitative analysis, 10 focus group discussions consisting of 6–10 participants and 4 in-depth interviews were conducted with selected farmers, Fulani herdsmen, and traditional rulers. Data collected were analyzed using content analysis. Respondents reported environmental destruction caused by the cattle-grazing activities of the Fulani herdsmen in the Southwest Nigeria, these range from destruction of crops due to the invasion of farmlands by cattle, destruction of green vegetation, destruction of young seedlings and water pollution. They also identified the challenges associated with the cattle-grazing activities of the herdsmen as lack of trust among the ethnic groups/ethnic stereotyping; suspicion; overgrazing on fallow lands; kidnapping/killing. Finally, the participants made the following suggestions on measures to protect the environment: the creation of cattle ranches; provision of hays/foray for cows' consumption; enlightenment on the danger of open grazing and the advantage of cattle ranches. The paper concludes by highlighting some policy options, the Federal Government of Nigeria (FGN) should sensitize Nigerians on the need for creation of cattle ranches in some parts of the country; the Fulani herders should be educated on how to rear cows without infringing on the right of others; FGN should encourage the provision of hays/foray for cows' consumption and the herdsmen should be compelled to buy this for their cows; and government at all level should enact anti open-grazing law.
Contribution/ Originality
This study is one of the very few studies which have investigated the environmental challenges associated with activities of herdsmen in Southwest Nigeria. The paper contributes the first logical analysis that herding activities pose a great danger to agricultural activities, hence, the creation of ranches is necessary.

Abstract
Bubugn is a cereal based traditional fermented Ethiopian low alcoholic beverage. It is one of the traditional fermented beverages used for a drink of holidays, wedding ceremony and also used as a source of income. The aims of this study were to determine the microbiology, microbial contaminants and physicochemical characteristics of Bubugn. Nine Samples of Bubugn were collected from Gondar town in three district areas; Azezo (A), Arada (B) and Kebele 18 (C). Microbial counts and physicochemical analysis were enumerated using standard microbiological methods. The mean value of the pH of the samples was 4.20 + 0.14; and the mean value of moisture content was 45. 79 +1.35. The mean crude fat, ash and ethanol contents of Bubugn were 6.67 + 0.16, 4.47+ 0.40 and 1.79 + 0.13, respectively. The mean number of total mesophilic aerobic bacteria, yeasts and molds and lactic acid bacteria of Bubugn were 3.74×105 cfu/ml, 5.68 ×106 cfu/ml and 7.52×105 cfu/ml respectively. Bubugn samples were contaminated by Shigella species, E. coli and S. aureus which could be due to poor hygienic conditions related to washing of preparation material, use of contaminated water and poor personal and domestic hygiene. The collected Bubugn samples were contaminated by different microorganisms and therefore, there should be the development of an advanced technique to improve quality.
Contribution/ Originality
This study contributes to the existing literature by providing necessary information for other researchers regarding the microbiology, microbial contaminants and physicochemical properties of Bubugn, a traditional fermented Ethiopian beverage.

Export to    BibTeX   |   EndNote   |   RIS

Abstract
This study used scenario analysis to estimate the economic impact of the expenditures of anglers who participated in offshore fishing tournaments in Ocean City, Maryland. The primary purposes of this study were to evaluate impacts on the adjacent areas, to identify potential uses for economic impact information, and to provide justification for investment and support of programs related to the needs of coastal communities and issues related to marine recreational fisheries management. To accomplish this study, the IMPLAN modeling system was employed to calculate the economic impact of offshore fishing tournaments on local and regional economies. Preliminary results using scenario analysis suggested the total economic impact of offshore fishing tournaments in Ocean City could be nearly $2.2 million for Wicomico and Worchester counties. To get this estimate, three different scenarios were considered based on potential expenditure estimate of what each tournament party would spend on lodging, fuel, food, fishing and miscellaneous costs. Using IMPLAN, impact metric categories could be generated including general labor income, job opportunities - employment, and value added. This paper provides the extent to which fishery managers, municipalities, business and private sector stakeholders could benefit from local marine recreational fishing tournaments, and potentially justify investment in infrastructure which supports marine recreational fishing.

The study adopted a cross-sectional survey research design. The primary source of data was a structured self-administered questionnaire. The population of this study consists of Senior Police officers from the rank of Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) and above, and the other ranks made up of Inspectors and Non-Commissioned Officers (NCOs) working in the twenty-seven (27) Police Divisions distributed in four (4) Local Government Areas of Rivers State, Nigeria which has a total staff strength of 14,886. Due to the large size of the population, the Taro Yamane Sample Size determination techniques were used to determine the sample size of 390 employees, which were selected through stratified random sampling. Internal reliability of the instrument was achieved through the Cronbach Alpha coefficient with items being above 0.70. After data cleaning, only data of 332 respondents were finally used for data analysis. The Pearson's Product Moment Correlation tool was used for hypothesis testing. The study findings revealed that there is a positive significant relationship between employee loyalty and organizational citizenship behaviour. The study thus concluded that employee loyalty bears a positive and significant influence on organizational citizenship. Managers should endeavour to develop a supportive connection with employees in a manner that would enhance employees desire to act or perform beyond their required role.

Abstract
This paper aims to examine the effectiveness of poster presentation in assessing the tourism students’ competencies. Three issues were investigated including the students’ responses, strengths and weaknesses and the students’ recommendation for more practical students’ learning. This research employed a case study approach (from July to December 2017) at Makassar Tourism Polytechnic, Indonesia. The study reveals that although students were worried about the implementation of poster presentation, the students were successfully participated in the examination through poster presentation. Three strengths were found including the students understand topics and sub-topics of a subject; link tourism concepts with the real context; and improve their self-confidence. This paper recommends the implementation of poster presentation for two reasons; 1) it supports the students to learn tourism concepts and issues independently; 2) it implements systematic ways including input (lecturer explains it), process (students prepare their poster), and output (students’ competencies).
Contribution/ Originality
The paper's primary contribution is finding that poster presentation has provided the opportunity for students to have intercultural competencies and sense of responsibility on environmental issues. Poster presentation is an option for teachers to assess the students’ competencies. It enables students to create and present poster through critical thinking.
